The assignment was "a day in the life of a teacher, and it had better be interesting." The gauntlet had been thrown, and many of the groups would fail. Once we finally found an instructor it wasn't difficult at... except for recording audio, using available lighting, editing 2+ hours of footage, and getting group members to work together. We decided the theme of the piece would be how light hearted this instructor makers her class rooms. Once we had that decided, chosing the materail was easy. I normally prefer to shoot a lot of materail so that way I'm not restricted but instead inspired durning edting. This was also the first project where I worked with another camera person who was shotting at the same time. It was tricking making sure we stayed out of each other's shots, but it was a blast to edit. The worst part about this project that tripped up so many of the other groups (besides lack of a theme) was pour audio. We used shot gun mics and headphones but in most cases it wasn't enough. It's a shame because a lot of the best materail of the subject had to be removed. Solve the problem, we had planned from the beginning to have an interview with her. What I didn't plan on was her freezing up and becoming serious for the interview During editing I decided to take out all the video of the interview but leave the audio because talking heads aren't really too interesting. In the end it was text book case of trials, triumphs, and some well selected music saving the day.
